The School of Wesleyan Studies (SWS) exists to promote the crucial understanding of the optimism of God's grace that is often missing in some teaching of the Holy Spirit’s presence in the life of Christ-followers. This optimism of grace exists together with an affirmation of the fallen human condition. Initially, the Lord’s Spirit invites everyone to experience God's grace so as to experience a new relationship with Jesus (Grace as Pardon). Subsequently, the Spirit then continues to empower followers of Christ to pursue holiness of heart and life through transformational life changes (Grace as Power).

Under the auspices of the James Earl Massey Center for Ministry and Leadership, this school seeks to help recover the crucial and practical teaching of the optimism of grace at the “center” of Wesleyan theology. The School of Wesleyan Studies exists to provide a place for interested persons, locally and globally, to advance their understanding of classic Wesleyan theology. These studies will include lectures, reproducible lessons, and electronic resources that will assist Christ-followers to understand and appropriate the transformative ministry of the Holy Spirit. Currently, the school does not offer courses for college credit.

The School of Wesleyan Studies endeavors to make classic Wesleyan teaching accessible to subscribers, individually and congregationally, by employing social media and distance learning methodology. Holiness of heart and life will be encouraged through thoughtful discussion, reflection, and exploration of the distinctive teachings of John Wesley. Subscribers will be able to post their insights from personal studies, as well as pose questions about the Spirit’s ministry and role within the believer’s life. In effect, this school will provide a network of learning where Christian scholars and even new disciples of Jesus can interact in mentoring and vital discussions on the optimism of grace.

Each session on Wesleyan distinctives has a video delivering deep, provocative content taught by Wesleyan theologian Dr. Cliff Sanders. Here is a peek into that content:
